Sara Vogelpohl is a horse trainer and riding instructor in Goodyear, Arizona. After being introduced to horses at age 6 she spent as many hours as she could learning more about their care, training, and behavior. Since moving to Arizona from Minnesota a number of years ago, she shifted her focus to riding and training in the English disciplines of eventing, dressage, and show jumping.

 

She has previously been a working student/groom under other trainers that have competed at the upper levels.Currently, Sara works closely with a USEF/FEI certified judge to continue learning the intricacies of training horses from start to finish. She also likes to audit clinics with higher level event riders to expand her knowledge further and learn from as many sources as possible. 

 

She strives to give the best possible experience for the horses she trains, and the people who come for instruction through working on small, reachable goals by using classical training techniques as well as both horse and rider bio-mechanics that create strong, clear partnerships.

As a trainer she is very familiar with many of the aspects that go into training horses from their first ride to undoing previous poor behavioral habits. Never wanting to push a horse beyond its current ability, Sara chooses to start horses carefully making sure her methods-a combination of skills she has picked up over time-work with the horse and not against it. Choosing to have this approach has positively gotten horses started and trained to whatever level their owner desires. While not just a trainer who starts horses, she also rides horses that have negative behavior to help correct it and get the horse back to a relaxed frame of mind so the rider can have their work resume-typically with no further issue.

Sara had a strong 2019 eventing season finishing in the top three of the events she participated in and getting reserve champion in Area X for the novice level. She was lucky enough to be invited to Costa Rica in 2020 to ride in an event where she came in first and fourth on the two rides she had.

Sara is looking forward to the 2024 eventing season with longtime partner Stellar Blue "Donte" and seeing where her 6 year old tb "Ellis" is able to go!
